Sodium Sulfite decription:
Sodium sulfite (sodium sulphite) is a soluble sodiumsalt of sulfurous acid(sulfite) with the chemical formulaNa2SO3. It is a product ofsulfur dioxide scrubbing, a part of the flue-gas desulfurization process. It is also used as apreservative to prevent dried fruitfrom discoloring, and for preserving meats, and is used in the same way assodium thiosulfate to convert elemental halogensto their respective hydrohalic acids, in photographyand for reducing chlorine levels in pools.

NATURE
It's white crystal or powder, no foul. Soluble in water (When 0 degree, 12.55g/100ml water; When 80 degree,283g/100ml water), at 33.4 degree the maximum solubility of about 28%, the aqueous solution is alkaline. Slightly soluble in alcohol, insoluble in liquid chlorine, ammonia. Easily oxidized in air into sodium, when the temperature is decomposed into sodium sulfide. As a strong reducing agent, it reacts with sulfur dioxide into sodium bisulfate, and with strong acid into corresponding salts.

Sodium sulfite Application:
1. In the field of water treatment
as the deoxidant of boiler water and oilfield flooding;
as antichlor for municipal and industrial water;
as the raw material for the production of sodium thiosulfate;
as the stabilizer of viscose acetal fibre;
as the bactericide of beer bottle.
2. In food industry: as bleaching agent, preservative, bulking agent, antioxidant and for the medicine synthesis
3. As analytical reagent, light dependent resistor materials and base solution of polarographic analysis
4. As antioxygen of cosmetics, mainly for hair dye cosmetics
5. As reducing agent of spice, dye and so on
6. In textile industry: as bleacher and deoxidier for fabric
7. In paper industry: as lignin removal agent.

Medicine, used as salting-out agent, coagulant, also used in paper, glass, printing and dyeing, synthetic fiber, leather and other industries
