The average molecular weights of SIS and (SI) nR are 150000 to 300000 and 150000 to 400000, respectively. Similar to SBS, it also shows two glass transition temperatures. Polyisoprene block (I) Tg1 and polystyrene block Tg2, for SIS, Tg1=-45 ℃, Tg2=111 ℃; For (SI) nR, Tg1=-51 ℃, Tg2=113 ℃. The adhesive properties of (SI) nR, such as initial adhesion, holding adhesion, and peel strength, are superior to linear SIS. The melt viscosity of SIS is lower than that of SBS. When aging is caused by high temperature or oxidation, SIS chain breakage is the main cause. It becomes soft and sticky, the cohesive strength decreases, the melt viscosity decreases, and the SBS cross-linking is the main action. It becomes hard, the cohesive strength decreases, the viscosity increases, and the gel. The other performance of SIS is basically similar to that of SBS.

The preparation of SIS is carried out in a cyclohexane solvent using an alkyl lithium initiator, which involves three steps of initiation of styrene, isoprene, and styrene, followed by anionic polymerization to obtain linear SIS. The star shaped SIS is formed by coupling the styrene and isoprene block copolymers generated in the first two steps with silicon tetrachloride oil as the coupling agent. The product is prepared through condensation, solvent removal, extrusion, dehydration, and granulation.
